Traditional ball mills run at a constant speed, regardless of the load inside. The VDN100Q uses a proprietary algorithm that continuously monitors the motor’s stator current to detect the mill’s load condition. It calculates the optimal operating speed in real-time, allowing it to run slower during low-load periods while still maintaining effective grinding. This dynamic speed adjustment reduces the average speed and energy consumption compared to constant-speed operation.

The VDN100Q is designed to provide excellent soft-start capability. It controls the starting current to less than twice the motor’s rated current -1. This prevents the large inrush current seen with direct-on-line starting, which can cause significant voltage drops on the power grid, tripping of other equipment, and high mechanical stress on the mill’s gearbox and motor.

For basic energy-saving operation, the VDN100Q is largely self-contained. It features a built-in DC reactor which significantly improves the input power factor to over 0.97, reducing the need for external power factor correction. However, for optimal performance and protection, standard input fusing or a circuit breaker is required, sized according to the recommended specifications.

The VDN100Q includes a comprehensive suite of protection functions designed specifically for the harsh demands of ball mill operation. These include over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage, overload, input/output phase loss, and short-circuit protection.

The drive features a built-in Chinese/English LCD human-machine interface. This allows operators to easily monitor key parameters like motor current, voltage, output frequency, and the status of auxiliary equipment. Operators can also use this interface to set the total milling time, after which the drive will automatically shut down the mill, simplifying process management.
